What can art record at the very moment that glaciers melt? Featuring over 20 drawings, installations, sound, and performance works, the exhibition explores the ephemeral nature of ice and the presence of humanity through visual and auditory expressions. Experience the whispers of the disappearing natural world translated into the language of art.

We sometimes perceive the environment as something that is separate from us. Therefore, our relationship with the ecological crisis is often distorted. Peerna’s works refer to the ways the entire ecosystem is interconnected, and how humanity and all the factors accompanying it, including the smallest parts, affect the well-being of the earth and natural environment.As an artist, she is fascinated by ice as a wonderful material: its fragility, ephemerality, transparency and beauty. She often includes ice both in her performances and in the production of drawings, where, for example, she melts the surface of drawings during the work process. For her live events, Peerna often involves the audience in participatory reflection on the current climate meltdown. Her performances represent a series of intuitive movements where she, for example, “takes care” of a piece of ice as if it were the last one on Earth, while also handing it over to the audience to hold, touch and smell—ice almost becomes an object of worship.

While in recent decades we have witnessed a massive and rapid melting of the polar ice caps and glaciers in the polar regions, scientists have also come forward with theories that glacial ice could have been a source of life on Earth. Peerna has been looking for poetic ways to once again draw attention to this reality of the vanishing ice, and to encourage the viewer to contemplate and take action.
