I Could Hear the Inner Workings of Ice
Graphite, color pencil on mylar.
Size: 11×9”
Year: 2024
A soundscape of ice melting and moving. Each work is drawn by Peerna as she listens to, and responds to eyes closed, recordings of ice moving and degrading. Peerna responds instinctively to the sounds she hears in the making of the works, moving the pencils across the paper with both hands, as though transcribing the sounds. The marks represent the artist’s complete immersion in the sound, with intense energy emanating from each work. The series of drawings addresses directly the melting glaciers on both poles due to the warming climate. The drawings are a record of her reaction to this event.
